Without doubt, Glen Katherine offers facilities and grounds that would be the envy of many schools. Our students are the beneficiaries of some excellent learning spaces, spacious grounds, shaded play areas, passive retreat areas and sporting facilities. Some examples of what GK offers include:

WELL-RESOURCED CLASSROOMS

Our classrooms are maintained regularly and new furniture has been purchased in recent years for our Prep and Senior School classrooms. Classrooms have withdrawal spaces for small group activities, storage areas and bag spaces. Most classes have a wet area and access to water. All classrooms are heated in winter, cooled in summer and windows are screened by blinds where required. All classrooms are well-resourced in literature and technology, teachers make use of our extensive school library and every room has a TV.

SPECIALISED LEARNING SPACES

An Art room, Performing Arts/Music room, Science room and Library, are all very well equipped with a broad range of resources. These learning spaces are specially designed to link to students' learning in the specialist curriculum, including an extensive range of instruments, microscopes, pet habitats, art supplies and much more.

THE GULLY

The Science room is adjoined by the GK Gully which is a wonderful retreat for students who enjoy fossicking around in the frog bog, vegie patches and leafy undergrowth. At the end of 2011, the school was announced by the state government as a specialist school in Science and Sustainability and awarded a $100,000 grant enabling the continuation and further development of the school's Science and Sustainability program and practices. For the past 10 years, the GK Gully has been developed into a magnificent natural environment for studies in science and sustainability. A weekly Gully Club takes place every Monday.

SPORT AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION GYMS, COURTS AND OVALS

Facilities include a full-sized gymnasium, hard courts, two synthetic surfaced tennis courts and a shared oval space with St Helena Secondary College. There is a variety of play equipment suitable for the different age ranges across the school. Prep students have exclusive use of their own play equipment which is in their Prep playground area. Shaded sandpits are also a source of interest and fun for many students. A large shade shelter over our courtyard provides all weather protection for our students.

ICT

All classrooms are equipped with access to laptops and/or iPads. at least four networked computers. A BYOD iPad program has been running in our Senior School (Grades 5&6) for the last few years and will continue in into 2021 and beyond.

LIBRARY

Glen Katherine has a large, well-resourced library encompassing a picture book corner, non-fiction section, fiction area as well as a teacher reference section. All students visit the library for one 50 minute session a week, during which they are given time to borrow books as well as learning relevant library and referencing skills.

MULTIPURPOSE BUILDING (MPB)

The MPB was completed in January 2011 and greatly enhances the school's existing learning spaces. The building comprises an Art room, Music room, a multipurpose floor-space approximately 50% the size of a basketball court, student and staff toilets. A functional kitchen and additional multipurpose space also provides a magnificent area for our Out of School Hours Care program (7am-8.40am, 3pm-6.30pm and vacation care program). Our MPB is in use from 7am-6.30pm. It is a magnificent building!

OUT OF SCHOOL HOURS CARE PROGRAM (OSHC)

The OSHC program operates in our modern multipurpose building. The program provides care for students both before and after school as well as during school holidays. The OSHC program operates from 7am – 8.40am and 3.00pm – 6.30pm on weekdays. It also operates during school holiday periods with the exception of the period from the end of the school year to mid Jaunary. Curriculum Day care is also available.

CANTEEN

A canteen service operates from Tue - Fri each week providing lunches (by order system) and over the counter sales during lunch times.

PFA

Our Parents and Friends Association (PFA) does a magnificent job in running the uniform shop, coordinating the Grade Communicators' program, raising valuable funds for the school, running special activities eg. Mothers' and Fathers' day stalls, student disco, ladies night, movie night etc.

SPACIOUS GROUNDS

We have extremely spacious grounds with an abundance of shaded areas, passive retreat places, gardens, recreational and active spaces. Shade sails, a gazebo, a large, curved roof shade structure over a central courtyard and long verandas give children lots of shaded play and quiet activity spaces. Maintaining and continuously improving our grounds is a shared responsibility between students, staff and parents.
