GK Sporting Events

GK runs a wide variety of sporting events throughout the school year, including the GK Fun Run, House Athletics Carnival and Inter-school Sports Competitions.

House Athletics

Students will be given the opportunity to contribute to their house team score by participating in at least four of the following athletic events: high jump, long jump, sprints, 800m, discus, shot put and hurdles.

The sports will be scored using a standardised point system in which children score points for their house according to the set standards for each particular event. These standards will vary for each age group – 9/10 year boys and girls, 11 year boys and girls and 12/13 year boys and girls. The sports will commence at 9.30 AM with the 800m and conclude with the final presentation of the House Shield at 2.40 PM. All grade 3-6 students are expected to attend.

From these sports a squad will be formed in which a final team will be selected to represent the school at the Interschool Athletic Sports to be held in term 3 at Meadowglen Athletic track.

Cross-Country

The Cross-Country program involves all students at the school from Grade Prep to six. Students have the opportunity to represent their House either Grevillea, Acacia, Eucalypt and Correa and complete set courses around the school. The students complete laps of the running track in their grades to improve their fitness level and prepare for the cross - country. The emphasis is on fun, participation and giving one’s personal best effort. All students receive a participation certificate

Students in Grade 3/4, 5 and 6 which finish in the top 10 placegetters in the House Cross - Country in their respective age group are given the opportunity to represent the school at this level. The District Cross - Country is held at Bundoora Park. The PE staff train the Glen Katherine team three mornings per week so that they are well prepared for their events. Glen Katherine has won the team award 15 times. Glen Katherine has been well represented at these levels with many State representatives.
